Garsa Wine

The Garsa Story

The Garsa Winery was born as homage to the unique connection between the Sierra Foothills viticultural area and the great growing regions of the Mediterranean, including Italy, Spain, Portugal, Tuscany and others. The altitude, soils, and growing conditions of California’s only pure mountain growing region allows many of the signature grapes of these regions – such as Tempranillo, Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah, Verdello, and Viognier – to flourish and develop character distinctive from that of other California appellations.

Garsa has been developed to showcase these lesser-known but extremely flavorful varietals – both as singular varietals and as custom blends of several grapes from this region. In all cases, our wines are – and will be - styled to be fruit-forward, approachable, and easy to enjoy products that reflect the best of the Sierra Foothills various growing regions.  Already in the Mediterranean lineup are Sangiovese (Italian origins), Tempranillo (Spain), Syrah (French Rhone), Rousanne (French Rhone), Grenache (Spain), and a Tawny Port (Portugal).  In the barrel are a Portuguese table wine blend (Tinta Madeira and Touriga Nacional) and a Vermentino (Italy).  And Garsa is committed to playing with other high quality Mediterranean grapes that produce fruit-forward wines for the American palate.  For the forseeable future, Garsa wines will continue to be available only in our two tasting rooms (Murphys and Clarksburg (Sacramento)) and via this website.  These vineyards are simply too small and specialized to produce retail quantities of quality wines.

The brand name itself – “Garsa” – feels Mediterranean, bringing together much of the character of the Mediterranean countries into one, original, word. You can also see the character of the Mediterranean reflected in our package, from the names of our wines to the colors and style of our “Mediterranean flag” label.

By visiting us now, you enter at the cutting edge of this brand and this region. Come along with us as we at Garsa explore new grapes, new blends, new flavors and new experiences as we bring together the best of the “California Mediterranean” that is the Sierra Foothills.
